Development of highly functional photonics devices from semiconductor planar waveguides have greatly advanced in the last few decades. Recent fabrication techniques have enabled the incorporation of crystalline and amorphous silicon materials inside silica capillaries to integrate the silicon planar technologies within the optical fiber geometry. This paper will review the recent efforts to develop compact nonlinear photonics devices from silicon fiber platform. These fiber-based devices will be a great interest for the future applications in all-optical signal processing.
