This paper presents a study on the dynamic response characteristics of the clutch driven disc for suppression of the judder during vehicle starting. Self-excited vibration behavior of the clutch driven disc is analyzed, based on the developed 4DOF non-linear multi-body dynamic model of the clutch driving process considering stick-slip characteristics and Karnopp friction model. Physical parameters which determine the generation of the judder behavior is therefore carefully discussed and improvement designs of the driven disc for suppression of the judder are consequently investigated and validated with experiments for one car. By simulation and experiment it is shown that the proposed judder suppression methods can be effectively conducted in two real cars with obvious performance improvement.
