The sheetlike BiOI1-xClx and BiOI1-xBrx (x = 0-1) heterostructures have been prepared by the reaction of Bi2O3 and KCl/KBr in glacial acetic acid (HAc) solution in dozens of minutes under ambient conditions. X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization indicates that the unlimited solid solutions have been formed between BiOCl or BiOBr and BiOI. Among these, BiOI0.75Cl0.25 and BiOI0.75Br0.25 exhibit higher photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation under visible light irradiation than that of BiOCl, BiOBr, BiOI and the solid solutions with other composition. The good photocatalytic performance could be attributed to larger specific surface area, suitable band gap and valence band location, which provide more active centers, absorb more visible light and higher oxidation ability of photogenerated holes.
