Although intertextual and interdiscursive phenomenon commonly exists in business genre, research on the classification, content and pragmatic function of this performance in the Corporate Social Responsibility Report has been scarce. From the perspective of critical genre analysis, this study conducts an intertextual and interdiscursive analysis of CSR reports released in 2017 by China Southern Power Grid and The ENEL Group, which are excellent enterprises concerning both financial achievement and social responsibility practice. The results are generated as follows: intertextuality and interdiscursivity are critical strategies employed in discursive construction at home and abroad. Textual intertextuality, textual-image intertextuality and interdiscursivity are widely used in both reports. Textual intertextuality is the most typical which describes social responsibility in terms of corporate management principles and practice; textual-image intertextuality is used to stress corporate social responsibility achievement further, but textual-image centrality needs to be improved; interdiscursivity helps corporates to realize multiple communicative purposes and construct various identities tactfully. A good command of intertextual and interdiscursive proficiency facilitates the discursive and professional practice for business professionals, which casts light on ESP writing.
