In practical EGAP teaching, how to enable students to achieve first, satisfying language production both in written and spoken form, and meanwhile develop their effective thinking abilities has been a great challenge. This article introduces a teaching paradigm integrating academic language training, general disciplinary content learning with critical thinking cultivating. Specifically, the production-oriented approach (POA) is applied to the teaching process. The article illustrates a three-phase six-week listening and speaking teaching design guided by POA, summarizes the theoretical principles for teachers to conduct such a design and analyzes the effectiveness of the design. Three findings are revealed. First, students showed greater improvement in academic presentation. Second, the high proficiency students improved significantly. Third, when students were enabled to input and output through critical thinking, they tended to be more motivated and self-satisfied. Students have very positive feedback towards the teaching paradigm. Some suggestions are also put forward for implementing POA effectively in EGAP classroom.
