In order to learn whether current College English teaching could meet the needs of the particular industries and individual, and how it could be improved to adapt for one’s communication with English in the modern world, the author did the research from which some valuable data were collected and carefully analyzed. The research was designed based on the theory of needs analysis, which is popularly used in course design at present. Interviews, questionnaires, and data analysis were conducted in the research, which was mainly aimed at the employees in the automobile/mechanical industries, and the students majoring in either of the two fields, respectively. The study adopted a combination means of qualitative research and quantitative research, focusing on social needs and personal needs for English language learning. Through the analysis of research data, it could be concluded that the teaching design of ESP was very important, and learners' subjective needs and objective needs should be considered during the implementation of college English teaching.
