The combustion of flame retardant cable is simulated by Fluent software, and the three-dimensional simplified model of the cable is established to simulate the combustion of different structure sizes. Compare and analyze the combustion and pyrolysis rate data obtained from the iterative residual plot and post-processing. The influence of the structure size of cable model on the dynamic process of combustion is studied, and the structural optimization design of the flame retardant cable layer is discussed based on the simulation results. The simulation results show that the flame retardancy of the cable increases with the thickness of the sheathed and the smaller the thickness of the sheathed the higher the proportion of the sheathed burning. In the actual design, under the premise of ensuring the mechanical strength of the cable, the thickness of the cable sheath can be appropriately increased to increase the flame retardancy of the cable, but during this process, there may be an area where the flame spreads rapidly. Reasonable sheathing structure could be further designed according to simulation to avoid this area effectively.
