To better understand the combustion process of straw pellets and the fertilizer properties of its ash , burning behavior of corn-stover pellets (Ф 10 mm) in a horizontal tube furnace at different temperatures (500-950 °C), pellets’ lengths (20-50 mm), and air flowrates ( 0.08-0.3 m/s) were investigated experimentally. Fertilizer properties of their ash were analyzed using our sequential extraction with appropriate solvents and a matrix expression. Results showed that furnace temperature higher than 700 °C only slightly affected the mass loss rate and burn out time. The effect of pellet length and flowrate were ignorable. Water soluble nutrients contents in ash from pellets (from 8.8% to 4.2%) were much smaller than that from powder (25.6% to 7.2%) at 500 ~ 800 °C. The effect of temperature on the solubility of metallic nutrients in the ash from corn-stover pellets was more significant than that of non-metallic nutrients. It will provide a reference for sustainable utilization of straws.
