The meridian channel design is the base of the pump design. Unfortunately, due to its simple structure, the study of the scientific and reasonable meridian design approach can be easily ignored by people. As a matter of factor, the meridian design is the fist step of the hydraulic design of the pump, which can influence the aerodynamic characteristics of the pump directly. To popularize the design experience of the advanced pumps' meridian surfaces, decrease the test cost and accelerate the design efficiency, a new statistical design approach comprising of the Medial Axial Transform (MAT) theory was proposed. The following conclusions could be gotten as: Ⅰ. Based on the statistical results of 6 typical impellers' meridian surface, the proposed method could design out the arbitrary meridian surface whose specific speed ranges from 30 to 500. Ⅱ. Through the verification Design of the typical structures, the effectiveness of the design approach is evaluated and demonstrated. Ⅲ. With the changing of the specific speeds, the new design approach can also design out the meridian surfaces satisfying the design rules.
