A New Design Method of Swirl Distortion Generator Based on S-shaped Inlet

The stability and other performances of the engine is sensitive to swirl distortion. There is an increasing demand to propose a design method that can reproduce any complicated swirl distortion. This paper present such a method that can recreating the flow field generated by M2129 S-shaped inlet. Taking the exit section of M2129 S-shaped inlet as the target flow field. The chord length, installation Angle and supporting device is designed according to the conditions such as blade consistency, velocity and airflow Angle of the target flow filed. CFD software is employed to simulate and analyze the flow filed in details. Three major findings were found after comparing the two flow field. First, The overall average deviation on three measuring rings is 1.12°. Second, the result indicate the Mach number have a little effect on the swirl Angle, and the influence can be ignored in the range of 210°to 330°. Third, the swirl distortion is qualified by SS, SI,SD and SP, it is found that the two flow filed are highly consistent. The proposed method is shown to provide a reliable means in reproducing arbitrary flow field.
