Abstract—To solve the problems of fault line selection in resonant grounding system, a novel fault line selection method for distribution network was proposed in this paper. This method based on transient zero-mode differential current and signal distance algorithm. First, the transient zero-mode differential current algorithm is used to distinguish between the bus fault or the branch fault. Then, if the branch fault is determined, the similarity degree of the fault branch and the non fault branch transient zero mode current is analyzed based on the signal mutual distance algorithm; the distance coefficient matrix is constructed; the line selection vector is determined, and the line selecting vector is produced. The fault line is determined by the minimum element. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed method is not affected by fault initial angle, fault resistance, fault location and network structure, which improves the accuracy of fault line selection.
