For high voltage multi-terminal direct current (MTDC) system using overhead lines for power transmission, such as Zhangbei demonstration project, the mechanical direct current circuit breakers (DCCB) with current commutation drive circuit (CCDC) is one of the promising candidates to deal with short-circuit DC faults. Considering that most of the short-circuit faults occurring to overhead lines are temporary, mechanical DCCB should be capable of auto-reclosing. To obtain the auto-reclosing function, the transient analysis of the reclosing process of mechanical DCCB with CCDC is carried out in this paper. Focused on mechanical DCCB with CCDC, the cooperation between the interruption process and the auto-reclosing process is presented first. Then, a simulation model of the mechanical DCCB with CCDC is established in PSCAD. By discussing the simulation results, transient voltage and current distribution pattern inside the mechanical DCCB with CCDC when reclosing to permanent faults and temporary fault are revealed in this pape
