Comparisons of Different Basis Functions in Parameterized Level Set Method for Topology Optimization of Continuums

In recent years, the parameterized level set method (PLSM) has gradually gained more and more attention in the field of structural optimization. Parameterized level set methods are based on radial basis functions in most of the early work, but seldom has some work been related to the effect of basis functions. This paper conducts a study on basis functions of the parameterized level set method for topology optimization of continuums. The effect of different basis functions in the PLSM are compared by considering storage needed, convergence, computational speed, and optimization results, and minimum compliance problem with volume constraint is taken into consideration.
