The use of rhetorical strategies is manifested in English speeches. The Queen’s annual Christmas message is an example of how rhetorical strategies are used in English speeches. Some researchers have explored rhetorical strategies in English speeches over the years, yet mostly based on discourse analysis or Aristotle’s resort. There might be still some research capabilities for exploring rhetorical strategies in English speeches from the aspect of figures of speech and rhetorical situation.
With the research methods of quantitative analysis and textual analysis, this thesis takes the Christmas message of British Queen in the last five years as the corpus, probes into the rules and suggestions of the using rhetorical strategies in English speeches.
