The Deterioration Mechanism of Underground Grounding Body under Impulse Current

The metal part of the grounding body will be deteriorated while experiencing impulse current, which can weaken the electrical conductivity. Therefore, the grounding body is unable to discharge the impulse current into the ground, which means that the grounding potential will rise and may cause electric shock. In order to obtain the deterioration mechanism of grounding body under impulse current, the deterioration test at different parts of grounding body under different values of impulse current is carried out in this paper. The variation of corrosion rate under different influencing factors can be obtained in the deterioration test. In addition, the influence of current amplitude and soil environment on the grounding body is carried out from the perspective of grounding resistance in this paper. Finally, the deterioration mechanism of grounding body is obtained. It can be found in the study that the soil environment and current amplitude have common influence on the corrosion rate of the grounding body, and impulse current can aggravate the deterioration of the grounding body. The corrosion mechanism is microcell corrosion when there is no impulse current, and electrolytic corrosion when there is impulse current. The latter has the most significant impact on the deterioration of the grounding body.
