The ultra-high frequency (UHF) detection, due to the advantages such as noiseless measurement, high sensitivity and on-line monitoring capacity, has become very important method for partial discharge (PD) measurements. In order to better evaluate the propagation and attenuation characteristics of UHF signals in the transformer, optimize the position and installation number of the antenna to obtain higher detection sensitivity and positioning accuracy, this paper proposed a simulation modeling method UHF dielectric window sensors in power transformers based on time domain finite integration algorithm (FIT), which can accurately solve UHF signals received by UHF dielectric window sensors. Based on the experimental oil-filled tank and the actual transformer platform, the same simulation models were built. The simulation process was described in detail, including the antenna modeling method, simulation parameter setting, material characteristics, etc. The simulation and experimental results of the dielectric window antenna in the oil-filled tank and the transformer were obtained. By comparing the waveform, amplitude, cumulative energy and frequency distribution of the simulated and measured UHF signals, the simulation results showed reasonable agreement with the experiment. Therefore, the simulation modeling method and results for the UHF dielectric window sensor in power transformers were successfully verified.
