Green and Efficient foam dust suppression technology and its application in coal mines

Effective source suppression of dust generation and dispersal is the top priority for dust prevention and control in mines. Existing technologies such as water spraying, ventilation, and coal seam water injection are insufficient to meet the demands for high efficiency and low water consumption in dust control. There is an urgent need to develop new technologies with high dust reduction efficiency and low water usage. As a gas-liquid two-phase medium containing a foaming agent, foam possesses the unique benefits of an expansive dust interception zone, robust dust bonding capability, and rapid dust moistening, rendering it an effective means for dust suppression, particularly for respirable dust. Therefore,a complete set of high-efficiency dust suppression technology for coal mine dust sources was developed in this study, as shown in Fig. 1. The technology includes environmentally friendly foam material preparation method, low-resistance and high-efficiency foam production method, foam ring spraying method and dust suppression performance. Field application results show this foam source efficient dust suppression technology achieves over 90% respirable dust suppression efficiency, a 40% increase over water spraying, and an 80% reduction in water consumption. This technology has been applied in several major coal producing areas in China, overcome technical bottlenecks in efficient preparation, utilization and green application of foam, enabling effective prevention and control of dust in underground coal mines. What's more, it also safeguards miner occupational health and safety and mine production, and has become a key core technology for source dust prevention and control.
