Abstract



In recent years, the hydrological conditions at the tail end of the Ganjiang River have undergone significant changes due to both natural variations and human activities. These changes have adversely affected flood control, navigation, water extraction, and the ecological environment of the river channels. This study analyzes the hydrological characteristics of the Waizhou station at the tail end of the Ganjiang River using time series analysis and the Mann-Kendall non-parametric test based on measured hydrological data. A water security evaluation index system was established, and a regional water security assessment was conducted. The results indicate that the annual variation of runoff in the tail end region is significant, while the distribution of sediment transport is more uneven, highlighting the increasing impact of human activities on the hydrological conditions of the Ganjiang River. Under drought conditions, severe water security issues arise, with numerous problems in the water ecological environment, water supply for irrigation, and navigation, especially with the deterioration of navigation and water extraction conditions in the southern branch under changing hydrological conditions. The relevant studies can provide reference for the Hydrological Changes and Regional Water Security Assessment in the Tail End Region of the Ganjiang River.
