摘要
NNEMP (Non-Nuclear EMP) is a type of HPEM (High Power Electromagnetism) and is a technology that outputs high-power microwaves based on non-nuclear power. NNEMP is used to develop radar, electron guns, and drone counters, and pulsed power can be used as a power source for NNEMP. In application fields such as military purposes, mobility is required to be mounted on a missile, mounted on mobile equipment, and carried directly by humans. Therefore, it must be able to be driven through a portable power source such as a battery.
Therefore, as a prior research for the development of battery-based pulsed power modulator, a study on the development of 40 kV pulsed power modulator based on 44V DC source has been conducted. Pulsed power modulator consists of a capacitor charger and a pulse discharge unit. The capacitor charger is designed to simultaneously charge multiple capacitors in parallel based on LCC resonant converter for ZVS and low crest factor, and burst mode control is applied to achieve high charging efficiency even under light load conditions. The pulse discharge unit consists of 24 2.5 kV rated semiconductor switches stacked in series to achieve a compact 40 kV pulse output. Each switch is synchronously driven through an on/off pulse signal transmitted through the current loop of a high voltage cable. This pulsed power modulator provides a pulse output of up to 40 kV, 100 A, 2kW, 4-10 us pulse width, and a maximum 3kH repetition rate.
The charger has a charging current of up to 150 A to provide a charging capacity of 2 kW at a low voltage of 44 V, and a structure for minimizing switching ringing by parasitic inductance is required in addition to the heating countermeasure of the charging converter. Also, a gate driver circuit for high efficiency charging based on burst mode control is designed.
The developed pulsed power modulator has been verified for stable charging performance and output power performance of 40 kV through P-spice simulation and pulse discharge experiments.
