During the operation of the motor control system, the switching loss of the inverter cannot be ignored. The boundary confined predictive control method reduces the switching frequency to several hundred Hertz by minimizing the switching actions of the IGBT, thereby decreasing the switching loss. This paper discusses the disadvantage of the circular boundary confined predictive control. To obtain an extremely low switching frequency, more current distortion is assigned to the d-axis in this paper. This strategy makes the current trajectory stay within the defined boundary for an extended duration. The simulation results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the switching frequency.
