The porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is an enveloped, singlestranded positive-sense RNA virus in Coronaviridae. PEDV causes high mortality rates in newborn piglets; it may also pose a risk to human beings. We aim to elucidate the specific mechanisms by which coronaviruses cause intestinal damage, providing new targets for the prevention and treatment of viral infections, in the hope that our research will advance the One Health goals. Our research elucidated the molecular mechanism of PEDV-induced intestinal damage in piglets, provided a scientific basis for advancing the development of effective prevention and treatment of viral infections, and provided an important theoretical basis for the research of coronaviruses.
