The impact of extreme climate on the production performance of livestock and poultry has become a key research topic in the current livestock field. The frequent occurrence of extreme weather such as hot and humid summers and cold winters seriously threatens the livestock and poultry industry. Research shows that high temperatures can cause heat stress in dairy cows, and extremely high temperatures can also reduce the energy conversion efficiency, directly affecting the stability of the dairy product supply chain. In winter, cold waves can lead to an increase in energy consumption of livestock and poultry. It is necessary to adjust the feed formula and strengthen the insulation measures of livestock houses. This paper focuses on the impact of extreme climate on livestock production, and analyzes from an ecological perspective how to prevent the further intensification of global climate change in the future and how to defend against the arrival of extreme climate.
