The conventional Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols assume that only one packet can be received at a given slot. In this paper, we consider the case that there are more than one transmission sharing a channel simultaneously and propose a modified IEEE 802.11 DCF adapted to multipacket reception (MPR). Under a Markov chain model, the expression of saturation throughput for MPR is derived, based on which we obtain the mean delay considering a queueing system model. Both simulation and analytical results show that the proposed 802.11 DCF for MPR system can considerably promote network performance compared with the WLANs with conventional collision models.
