The wireless traffic grows fast nowadays, and the
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) traffic is still the dominating
data flow in the Internet. In order to improve the users’ Quality
of Experience (QoE), it is urgent to analyze the mobile traffic
accurately and optimize the current network service delivery
mechanisms. We test the top 200 popular websites in China at
the smartphone by the platform that we developed, and a more
comprehensive cross-layer database for the web browsing service
of the real HSDPA network is constructed, which can help us
to analyze the traffic more reasonably. Our measurement and
analysis show that DNS lookup delay should be considered for
the web browsing service. A revised traffic model is proposed
to fit the actual wireless network by the packet-based analysis.
The extensive measurement show that the traffic characteristics
is vary at different scenes. The database and proposed method
can not only help us understand the web browsing more compre-
hensively but also reveals new opportunities for wireless network
optimization.
