In Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networks (DTN), where a stable transmission path cannot guarantee due to intermittent connectivity, traditional Internet TCP/IP protocols have a bad performance because they require a continuously stale transmission path. On the other hand, those transmission protocols specially designed for DTN are not compatible with the existing software, which developed based on TCP/IP protocol stack. Therefore, we designed a TCP Compatible DTN (TC-DTN) overlay protocol for oceanic wireless networks, considering the characteristics of oceanic wireless communication. To evaluate the performance of TC-DTN, we implement TC-DTN on a testbed consisting of over 20 wireless nodes. The experimental results have shown that TC-DTN effectively improves data transmission rate and greatly reduce transmission delay, compared with existing TCP/IP protocols
