In recent years, as the power system develop to the high voltage, large capacity and long distance transmission direction, the phenomenon such as the line reactive power increases ,the high terminal voltage and power frequency over-voltage occurs frequently. In order to solve this problem usually installed a shunt reactor in the bus, the transmission line of the primary circuit or secondary circuit of power system, which can compensate the reactive power for power system.
High voltage circuit-breakers switching shunt reactor is ascribed to small inductive current interruption. What’s more, circuit-interaction between the breaker interrupter and the surrounding circuit can result in transient voltage with high amplitude and high-frequency, which is a great threat to the power grid. Particularly, the re-ignition overvoltage of Ultra-High voltage circuit-breaker will be very high on account of the large switching inductive current, therefore, it is very important to test and verify the inductive load switching capacity of the UHV circuit-breakers in the high power test station.
With the test requirements of shunt reactor switching for 1100kV circuit-breakers, which is used in UHV power transmission engineering, and combined with the more severe test parameters required by the national grid company. In this paper according to analysis of the test requirements and test provisions of international standard IEC 62271-110, and calculation of transient process and test parameters for 1100kV circuit-breakers inductive current switching, a double side excited test circuit loop is designed and proposed based on short-circuit generator and step-up transformer. Furthermore, by applying the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation software the simulation results of the test circuit can meet the required test parameters well. In addition, the shunt reactor switching test for 1100kV UHV circuit breaker is experimented in XIHARI high power station. Finally, it is shown and discussed the three typical test results, which are success interruption, single re-ignition and multiple re-ignition.
