The paper focuses on the current commutation between the vacuum arc and the IGBTs of DC micro-grid hybrid circuit breakers (HCB). The principle of the DC HCB is analyzed and the current commutation is the important process in DC HCB interruption, on which the arcing time and the interrupting time are depended. Based on IGBT characteristics analysis, appropriate parameters was selected, and a six IGBT Parallel system was set up, which successfully turned off 5 kA under 400 V, with nonuniformity coefficient of 5%;Combining with fast mechanical switch, the current commutation between the vacuum arc and the IGBTs is obtained. The vacuum arc commutation characteristic of DC HCB can be useful for parameters design and control strategy.
