Logistics and Transport systems grow in terms of size, capacity, complexity and ambient pollution. They also interact more with the environment and are controlled by real time data. People however expect industrial systems, transport and production systems in particular to be safe, flexible, efficient, reliable, self-adaptable and labour extensive. Future logistics and transport systems therefore have to be designed in a different way, where new technologies, including sensing, networking and automatic control will be embedded to make the system smart.
This Special Session will address novel smart technologies such as the Internet of Things, Cloud computing, Big data, Disaggregated computing, Self-* system and so on, which has been applied or explored in modern logistics and transport systems to make them intelligent and human friendly. This Special Session will also focus on innovative applications such as smart ports, smart ships, smart warehouse, smart transport, smart intermodality, smart distribution and smart marine. Technology enablers shall take into account the need or demanding for real time and open data, collaboration, planning, booking and execution of freight flows, optimal routes, combination of modes, dynamic re-routing, harmonised interoperability between supply chain partners, security, privacy, data ownership and policies for data sharing.
Scientists, researchers, PhD students and practitioners who have a general interest in smart logistics and transport are welcomed to submit their papers to the Special Session. All selected papers, which pass the reviewing processes will be published on IEEE Explore, same as the conference’s proceeding.
