Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has had significant contributions to novel and current ways to interact with and collect geographic data. Different fields, disciplines and actors are already taking advantage of its existence. The easiness to collect data by users who are not necessarily trained in Cartography opens the door for great collaboration, but also has potential pitfalls, namely its quality and credibility. On the other hand, many applications involve distributing or publishing data on the web due to how easy it is and how fast it can reach other users and contributors. A myriad of mobile and web applications have given perspective to the usefulness and appropriateness of these approaches and invites many more users to join in this exciting way to collaborate and produce data and information. Practically anyone can take part in the generation of geographical knowledge where official geographic data does not exist or is unavailable. This workshop aims to discuss fresh ways to generate and use crowdsourced data, new avenues of research, innovative ways to tackle the pitfalls that have already been identified and showcase applications in a wide range of fields of study. From management, to public participation, to risk analysis.
