Institute of English at the University of Silesia, has the pleasure to announce the 4th international conference titled Various Dimensions of Contrastive Studies (V-DOCS 2017). The conference aims at focusing on a variety of possible approaches to contrasting languages. We want to welcome academics who represent various methodologies and perspectives on linguistic analysis: formal, functional, cognitive-semantic, pragmatic, and anthropological.

The role of place in language analysis has traditionally been associated with sociolinguistic studies into regional variation of languages. However, it turns out that the category of place plays an important role in the structures of language, from the place of articulation in phonetics to the place of elements in word-formation, from the problems of place-naming to conceptualizations of place in lexicology and semantics, from the analysis of the places of syntactic constituents in various structures and constructions to the contextual role of place in raising implicature in pragmatics and discourse analysis.
