The 2018 Oxygen Radicals Gordon Research Conference will highlight the latest cutting edge research in the field by providing diverse session topics on various aspects of oxygen radicals as effectors of redox chemistry, biology, and medicine. Sessions will cover the spectrum of oxygen radicals in physiology and pathobiology from basic mechanisms of oxidant signaling and disease etiology to imaging, sensing and quantification of oxidants as well as therapeutic applications. The invited speakers and program are designed to have broad appeal to junior and senior scientists and clinicians with an interest in chemical biology, oxygen radical reactions and detection, and translational science. The meeting will begin and end with keynote lectures from two world experts in the field. This research conference is held every two years and seventeen have been held since 1981. These meetings have proven to be extremely popular and productive based on the large number of applicants and strong post-meeting evaluations. A significant number of short presentations will be chosen from submitted abstracts. Poster sessions are also scheduled and overall the conference is organized so that ample opportunities for discussion are provided, and interactions between senior and junior scientists and trainees are fostered in a collegial setting. Furthermore, based on the success of the Oxygen Radicals GRS in previous years we are pleased that the 2018 Oxygen Radicals GRC will be preceded by a 2-day GRS meeting organized and run by trainees – Klaus Koren (Denmark) and Shireen Attaran (USA) – and anticipate that this will further enhance the quality of cutting-edge science presented and discussed at the meeting, as well as providing unique networking and career development opportunities.
