Who Should Attend
This course is recommended for geoscientists, reservoir and production engineers and technical managers who wish to gain insight into in-situ oil sands operations.
Objectives
This two day seminar integrates the principles of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) and emerging production enhancement technologies with reservoir characterization, primarily focused on the McMurray Formation. Developing a 3-dimensional view of these oil sands deposits, understanding the impact of reservoir heterogeneity on steam chamber growth and identifying production risk are important considerations for developing optimal recovery strategies. Hands-on examination of representative oil sands cores provides critical observations for each reservoir type. Post-steam core provides direct knowledge of production mechanisms and steam chamber growth and conformance.
Performance analysis of SAGD projects includes an introduction to recovery factor estimation, relevant sub-surface data acquisition, Steam Oil Ratio (SOR) estimation and production forecasting. A discussion on the integration of engineering with the geosciences provides the basis for fulsome assessment of oil sands in-situ projects.
