For almost a decade, operators have focused on tight oil and liquids-rich gas to take advantage of favorable oil prices. Of late, however, the model appears to be shaky. Oil prices have fallen over 50 percent since mid-2014, while at the Mont Belvieu, Texas, hub, propane has tumbled more than 60 percent. To survive in this lower price environment, operators are focused on lowering costs, and finding and developing sweet spots within their acreage. Has the shale story passed its peak, or is this just the beginning of an even more exciting chapter?
