活动简介

We are pleased to invite you to attend the 38th Annual Conference of the North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME-NA 2016) to be held in Tucson, Arizona from November 3 - 6, 2016.
The theme of the conference is Sin Fronteras: Questioning Borders with(in) Mathematics Education. This theme is intended to encourage research presentations, discussion, and reflection on the variety of borders within mathematics education, as well as those that might be probed, challenged, explained, enhanced, and/or potentially transformed by mathematics education. We encourage broad interpretations of what might count as a border. For example, we hope proposals examine not only geographic, political, cultural, or language borders with(in) mathematics education, but also borders between mathematical content areas or grade levels, how borders might limit access to mathematical content or impact mathematics teaching practices, or ways that borders can segregate mathematical learners. We see borders as potentially productive as well as potentially problematic and we encourage presentations that take up either perspective. Our hope is that the conference will catalyze conversations about how mathematics education includes and excludes, while also serving as a tool for understanding more about the tensions, challenges, and generative possibilities of borderlands (both literal and figurative). To this end, we encourage participation of members from across many borders (including, but not limited to, geographic borders). We hope our theme helps to focus presentation proposals, but we welcome all proposals that further a deeper understanding of teaching and learning mathematics even if they do not directly address the theme.
