Robotic surgery accounts for 60-70% of all radical prostatectomies, and has resulted in excellent oncological results for patients. The issue is that few surgeons have mastered this technique. Complications resulting from robotic surgery can impact morbidity and hospital length of stay- so experience and technique is instrumental in preventing these complications. Robotic surgery has been proved to be excellent in oncologic outcomes, but the outcomes are highly dependent on surgeon skill.
Our goal with this course is to have novice to mid-level surgeons learn technical skills surrounding the treatment of prostate and kidney cancer from those surgeons with exemplary experience. Since skill and experience is a proven mechanism and key to success for robotic surgery, this knowledge and skill is necessary. It is our hope that this course will both increase surgeon’s abilities to treat urologic cancer, as well as better address diagnoses for patients presenting with urologic cancer.
